About Bastiaansen Modestad

1750 m2 of fashion in seven departments spread across three floors. That is Bastiaansen Modestad, located in Bavel, a city where fashion professionals tell you the latest about colours, fabrics, styles and models and where the newest trends are added to the shop collections daily. It's a city with the widest selection of brands in the region and an exceptional shoe store. Put simply, it's the fashion capital of the Netherlands.

The Challenge

The design from APS Building Brands for fashion house Bastiaansen Modestad of Bavel presented ISAAC with an interesting challenge: full-screen background photos and the development of an unusual menu would give the site a striking yet stylish appearance. But, naturally, the user-friendliness could not suffer as a result.

Approach

Advice

As ISAAC suggested, the website was completely built using HTML, instead of Flash, so it would remain indexable by search engines. ISAAC also advised APS Building Brands on the matter of usability.

Design

The design of the website was created by APS Building Brands. ISAAC served an advisory role during the development of the design. In follow-up to the website, ISAAC developed a matching interface for the digital fashion magazine published by Bastiaansen Modestad.

Implementation

In addition to the technical implementation of the website in HTML and CSS, ISAAC also created the website back end. A database running in the background enables visitors to subscribe to a newsletter and apply for a membership card. All data sent via the contact form is also automatically saved in the database for backup purposes.

ISAAC also produces a digital flip book version of the Bastiaansen Modestad fashion magazine, which allows the visitor to conveniently page through it while online. The employed Flash technique makes it look as though the visitor is paging through a printed magazine, producing a true-to-life page turning experience.

Management

In addition to hosting the website, ISAAC also ensures that visitors are kept up to date on the latest fashion trends. The newest fashion photos, tips and special offers are added to the website at frequent intervals.

Final result

Through the use of many large photos, the website conveys a strong impression on all commonly used computer systems. The drop-down menus in the horizontal menu bar open downwards or upwards based on the placement of the content, which gives the site a dynamic character. At the bottom of the screen, the brands sold by Bastiaansen Modestad slowly scroll by in ticker tape style until the visitor clicks a logo and links through to the appropriate site.

Thanks in part to the superb communication via the website and the fashion magazine, Bastiaansen Modestad was nominated for the Retail Jaarprijs in 2008.
