On Friday the 25th of August and the early hours of Saturday the 26th, the ISAAC Peral room was the scene of the first SIMON-ISAAC Hackathon on Artificial Intelligence.
20+ software engineers, artists, interaction designers from SIMON, ISAAC, The Wolfpack and some related externals joined forces. Together we tested - and occasionally broke - frameworks like Keras, TensorFlow and OpenCV as well as some cloud platforms (Azure & Google). The five teams (Krekhoors, Status 418, Ace of Spades, WETAI and Treehuggers) worked on cool cases around such topics as visually scanning you and figuring whether you dress as a Star Wars or Star Trek character, building a playing card bot that can actually sit live on your table when you lack a fourth player, recognizing medicines based on their boxes and predicting the perfect coffee beverage by recognizing who you are, what your mental state is and what your previous coffee habits have been. Before you ask about that last one: it only works on our own brand new Melange D'or coffee machines.
The new ISAAC T-shirt mottos 'Turning Pizza into Code' and 'Turning Coffee into Code' were proven to be true! As was “Turning Beer into Code” by the way, and now also 'Turning Code into Coffee'.
A great start for SIMON (who will officially start this week on our 2nd floor) and a lot of cool code that is crying “please continue my development! I am so cool!”. With the Hackathon, a new format has been added to the ISAAC portfolio on events, that we can use again in the future!
